The EP is meant as a medley of biopics about London and Essex characters who make enough of an impression we want to bring their feeling into the studio and elaborate on it. It's an attitude, the way they walk, talk, laugh with friends, look at you, light a cigarette, that draws us in and compels us to make a piece of music about them.

'Rude Girl' is an obvious one, women who are an original product of London street culture, figures of respect. 'Crow Face' is actually inspired by an ex-football hooligan and his stories of far flung aggression and chaos in the 80s. 'Steroids In The Water' is about the alarming level of steroid consumption in guys here, a warning, a what's going to happen next. 'Dizzee Biccie' is the cheekiest anecdote, a group of notorious OAPs were caught selling cocaine from their old people's home concealed in custard creams, Britain's favourite biscuit. True story.

The power and relentless energy of 'Birthday Cake Is Dead', the EP's namesake, underpins the others nicely and all set the tone of where we're heading with our own original productions.
